Determined to go beyond the accepted aesthetics of the existing compact SUV segment to create a confident, bold, new, genre-redefining vehicle, Kia drew inspiration for the EV5 from the brand’s acclaimed ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy.

Design Concept

Embracing the subtle interplay between natural landscapes and contemporary architecture, the Kia EV5 features strong and robust lines. It presents a modern interpretation of the Kia tiger mask with a broad and distinctive stance, all sculpted with passion and precision.

“The Kia EV5 was created to redefine the compact SUV category, with styling inspired by Kia’s unique design philosophy, ‘Unity of Opposites’,” said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia’s Global Design Center. “At every stage, Kia’s designers worked closely with engineering colleagues to create a holistic solution for sustainable transportation. As a result, the EV5 sets new standards for design, performance and practicality, while delivering new levels of driving pleasure and user experience.”

Heavily influenced by ‘Bold for Nature’, one of the five design pillars of ‘Opposites United’, the EV5 features a strong and powerful body complemented by soft and emotionally resonant surfaces, designed to inspire creativity and meet the needs of environmentally conscious families as well as individuals seeking innovation.

From every angle, the EV5’s confident and dignified demeanor is reflected in its powerful fenders and broad shoulder line, creating a solid and distinctive body silhouette. The pushed-back D-pillar further highlights the EV5’s family practicality, emphasizing the spaciousness of the rear seats and trunk while providing a wide field of vision.

Distinctive Kia design elements such as the wide front and strong bonnet combine to form a stylish digital ‘tiger face’ that transcends the traditional grille and conveys a clean and powerful impression. Further enhancing the front exterior design, the EV5 features a three-dimensional ‘signature star pattern lighting’ formed by the daytime running lights (DRL). Inspired by starry constellations, dynamic shapes are introduced along the light line to further emphasise the EV5’s tiger face design.

The extended and lowered spoiler at the rear maintains the SUV’s distinctive silhouette while improving aerodynamic efficiency, marking the EV5’s position as a groundbreaking electric vehicle designed to usher in a new era of safe, sustainable family mobility. The technical, wide lower skid plate further emphasises the EV5’s ruggedness and protection, while the tailgate’s parting line provides a clear, clean signature to the design.
